The JBL GTO6428 uses a 1-inch (25-millimeter) Mylar-titanium (My-Ti) tweeter with a large voice coil–much like a voice coil found in high-end home audio speakers. The benefit of the Mylar and titanium blend in making a tweeter is that it is lightweight and has remarkable strength. Low-impedance speaker voice coils extract more power from your amp for more powerful performance than high-impedance coils do. JBL GTO6428 speakers use a lower-impedance voice coil than a typical 4-ohm speaker to extract the most power possible from all amplifiers engineered to drive loads of 4 ohms or less. And the GTO6428 is compatible with both aftermarket head units and factory-installed systems. Since many factory-installed systems incorporate 2-ohm speakers and include amplifiers designed to drive 2-ohm loads, replacing those reduced-impedance speakers with a typical 4-ohm model will reduce the power output from the amplifier. This is a review on JBL GTO928 and JBL GTO628 (6×9) (6.5).I would like to cancel out all the reviews about the lack of bass.These speakers have very very very good bass, beats stock speakers by a long shot and you can run them at higher volume.
DON’T MIX THE WIRES!!!The speakers will run regardless of which way you install the wires, but they will run properly only in one combination, you have a 50/50 chance, test them out.You will know when you got them in wired right, there will be good bass, they will not rattle and when you turn them up higher you won’t hear plastic bending and muffled sound.Don’t confuse rattling with poor installation- these are heavy and hit hard, I put my (6×9) on some heavy bolts and nuts.I would like to cancel out all the reviews about returned and broken speakers.If you have wires backwards and run them at moderately high volume- they will soon stop working (BROKEN), YOU BROKE THEM, THERE IS NO QUALITY PROBLEM HERE.
BOTTOM LINE:I have no sub, I have no amp, I have aftermarket Pioneer deck with navigation, same wires, nothing extra, everything else is stock except for drilling holes and finding the right bolts to fit the back speakers.6.5 inch speakers are supplied with good installation brackets- use them, whichever one fits best, use your imagination.With proper set up in the equalizer and bass control- THESE SPEAKERS MAKE THE WHOLE CAR VIBRATE.(Chevy Malibu 2009)Good Job JBL.

 After purchasing $50 Pion3er speakers at a big box store for slightly less cash.  the Pion3er speakers just sucked so bad. I bought these JBL Grand Touring series because I had bought 6x9s of the same Type Earlier and they are great!. these JBL six and a half inch speakers did not disappoint.  When these JBL speakers are compared to the retail speakers I had, The Big Box store speakers sound like they’re already blown out because they can’t handle the power from a factory radio without terrible distortion.  

They are outstanding for the price. I took my big box store $50 speakers and threw them in the trash. Now my vehicle is rocking four of these JBL beauties. And my other vehicle will soon be rocking foUr as well. I like the directional Tweeter with the optional attenuator. Mounting was acceptable in Factory holes. the vehicle I put all 4 into was a Chevy Tahoe 2004 w/factory radio. I put the 6×9 version of this into my Honda Accord rear deck and they Rock.  The highs are great. The mid seemed fine. The base is not outstanding although these speakers can handle the Low end power without sounding like crap. so no mistake these are not subwoofers but they can handle whatever your stereo puts out & still offer some pretty darn good bass on the low end. I will be buying more which will be my fourth set From Amazon. I will be buying a Powered JBL sub to install because I’m so happy with these speakers.I’m fully aware I could get better speakers If I want to spend more money.The reason I’m pleased is the price And the Performance.

First and foremost in the Item description "Adjustable mylar-titanium tweeter" implies that the tweeters are adjustable, They are NOT. I was looking forward to dialing these in and that will not be possible. After searching, JBL does not make this claim
Certain tweeters in the GTO series are adjustable and I would guess that is where the written description was borrowed from.

These are great speakers and would probably get 5 stars in the right location but, if you install these in an older 90’s Chevy truck don’t expect the impossible. For example, the front speaker location on a Chevy truck has no speaker box and there is no simple way to modify the enclosure because of the poor Chevy design. This is not the fault of the JBL 4×6 speaker, in the right box the GTO6428’s sound great driven from a standard radio without an amplifier. If the speakers are installed into the factory Chevy location without modification your speakers will have a low quality free air sound. The sound starts at a high mid range and goes up with no mid low end to speak of. If you seal off the location with some Dynamat the sound and lower end will improve a little. The large magnet on the GTO6428 speakers squeezes right up against the air duct making it very difficult to completely seal up. In a Chevy truck you’ll need some tight subwoofers to handle some of the lower midrange.
Overall with a truck, I would suggest getting a set of the cheaper and more popular 6.5" speakers and then install them in another location, like the doors for better sound. If you have a nice location with a sealed enclosure then by all means pick up a set they are better than the factory speakers.

Good money for value ! It is real 70w rms 140w for the pair, plugged through a DSP so the sound is very clear. If I compare it to the hertz I have in my order car and they cost about 170$ for the pair the difference is no difference except in the higher sound amplitude and in maximum volume that you will never use!
